For more Abstract Landscapes, visit our link at bottom of page. One of Vavrina's apprentices posed for a painting class at the studio. Vavrina depicts the whole town coming out to watch the race. Vavrina's many visits to this old town inspired this market shop scene. After studying different artists, Vavrina then paints his version. Here Matisse's influence is evident. One of Vavrina's classes at the studio brought about this lively group of figures. Vavrina's quick charcoal strokes and bright background color, give life to this simplified form. Vavrina portrays two young ladies talking, maybe one a bride-to-be getting ready for her wedding.
Vavrina's painting visit with Gerard Valtier, in France, inspired this colorful setting. A lady visiting the gallery prompted Vavrina's portrayal of her. Vavrina captured the feeling of this loving couple oblivious to the rain around them. Vavrina's version of The Muse of Dance and Music. Vavrina's smooth, flowing, charcoal strokes convey romantic feelings as these lovers dance the night away. Every now and then Vavrina tries something totally out of the ordinary. Vavrina's caricaturistic figures reminded him of the Cabaret couple Vavrina depicts the playfulness of his grandchildren in a park fountain. Evidence of studying both Cezanne and Matisse is displayed in this Vavrina painting. Vavrina depicted the crowds of people that the new casino down here draws. After watching a TV show, Vavrina painted his version of Haitian folk dancers. Birds landing on the balcony outside Vavrina's Amsterdam hotel window led to this Matisse-style treatment.
