| Even as a young boy,
Gérard
Valtier was an accomplished artist, enrolled in the School of Fine Arts in
Reims at the age of twelve. His life has been a steady progression
in the development of his considerable talent. He was born in Morocco of French parents, returning to France in the face of civil unrest. As a young man he continued his studies on the Isle of Man, mastering English as well as his chosen profession. He settled in Provence, making his home in Fontvieille, near Arles. This area has earned the reputation of having fantastic light, which is reflected in the work of Gérard Valtier. His paintings vibrate with light and color, often finding expression in convivial party scenes, with tents or umbrellas, boats and flowers, and happy people having a good time. In the early 90's, Valtier met American Impressionist, Charles Vavrina, who was painting in Arles. The two quickly became friends. Valtier opened his studio to his new friend, and Vavrina returned the favor by sharing his studio in Fort Myers, Florida. The two artists have painted and exhibited together and shared their love of their work. Valtier has earned many awards and has exhibited in cities throughout Europe and the United States. Valtier is referenced in Mayer, Bordas, Akoun and Who's Who International. One of his works can be found on the jacket of the book, "The Great Masters from 1850 to Today," published by the Museum of Carnac. He is a master of movement, color and transparency. He uses art to communicate his optimism and joy of life. |
